Install vCloud Automation Center 6 (vCAC 6) – part 8 – Create Services

vCAC 6.0 introduces us to a new Self-Service catalog and a new way of managing Catalog Items. In previous versions of vCAC Blueprints were assigned to groups within the Blueprint itself. In this version Blueprints are published which enables them to be assigned to users and groups through the catalog management components of the vCAC Service Catalog.

To enable blueprints to be available in the catalog we first need a service that we can publish them to. A service is really just a container that will hold the object. If you look at the service catalog you can see the services listed down the left side. These services are the containers that hold the actual catalog items that can be requested by the users.

To create a service, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Administration –> Catalog Management –> Services. Click on the green “+” sign to add a new service vcac-blueprint-08
  2. Give the service a name, set the status to Active and click Add to create the new service vcac-blueprint-09a
  3. Navigate to Administration –> Catalog Management –> Catalog Items. Once there find the blueprint you would like to enable, click the down arrow next to it all the way to the right, and select configure vcac-blueprint-11
  4. Next you can choose an icon to represent the item if you like then at the bottom of the page choose the service you would like the catalog item to be published to. Click update to finish configuring the catalog itemvcac-blueprint-12
